PM Modi kick starts commencement of work at Zojila tunnel
Leh, MAY 19 /Prime Minister, Narendra Modi formally kick started commencement of work on the mega Zojila tunnel project here today.The project will be finished within seven years. “Zojila project will be completed in seven years, but I have asked the concerned ministry to look into ways to reduce the time for completion of this project,” the PMsaid. “It (tunnel) will lead to all-round economic and socio-cultural integration of these regions. It also has immense strategic importance,” he added.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM Modi had in January this year, approved construction of the tunnel by the successful bidder for the project IL&FS Limited . The project will reduce the time taken to cross the Zojila pass from the present three and a half hours to just fifteen minutes, PMO tweeted on Friday.
The project is implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) through the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The project will provide all-weather connectivity to the region. The project has strategic and socio-economic importance and shall be an instrument for the development of the far-flung districts, Kargil and Leh.
The civil construction cost of the project is Rs 4,899.42 crores. The total capital cost of the project is Rs 6,808.69 crores. It includes the cost towards land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities as well as maintenance and operation cost of the tunnel for four years.
The pass is situated at an altitude of 11,578 feet on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway and remains closed during winters due to heavy snowfall which cuts off Ladakh region from Kashmir.
The project aims at construction of 14.15 km long two-lane bi-directional single tube tunnel with a parallel 14.2 km long egress tunnel excluding approaches between Baltal and Minamarg in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti said the construction of the Zojila tunnel would cut down the psychological divide between people of different regions in the State by a great measure. She said the tunnel would not only increase the tourism activities in Ladakh region but also the communication between students, traders and common masses and it would give a major relief to local people who would be at the mercy of harsh winters during closure of the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh Highway in winters.
Mehbooba Mufti said the region has a great scope for winter sports and the youth from Ladakh have displayed their sporting talent at ample times. She pitched for construction of two high quality indoor stadiam at Leh and Kargil so that the sporting activity becomes a round the year affair in the region.

BJP Conducts Rally in Kargil
The speech of the Prime Minister was live broadcasted in a rally at Hussaini Park in Kargil. Ministers for Forest and Environment, Rajiv Jasrotia, MOS Finance Ajay Nanda and MLC Vikram Randawa along with the BJP young leaders were also present in the rally .
On the occasion CEC Kargil, DC, SP and other apex government officials were present. However, on the other side noteworthy is that many of the veteran leaders of the BJP District Committee were absent from the rally, manifesting the internal dispute within the party. BJP leader Mohd Subhan Jaffary speaking to our correspondent said that the senior leaders had boycotted the rally. Among those boycotted were Haji MohdKhoddam, Zakir Hussain Zakiri, ChewangDorjay, Mohd Ali Kothi and Mohd Hani. The reason for boycott was the meeting of the party District president Mohd Ali Majaz with PM in Delhi without notifying the veteran leaders, his failure to raise local issues with the top leaders and ignoring the people's issues, said Subhan.
DM Calls For Intensifying Ban On Use Of Polythene
KARGIL MAY 25, 2018:- The District Magistrate Kargil has directed the committees already constituted for preventing the use of polythene to properly monitor and check the markets on weekly basis and submit reports to his office on every Monday.Since the use of polythene stands banned by Hon' ble High Court and the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, the general public, shopkeepers, hoteliers, vegetable, meat and chicken sellers, hawkers as well as vendors etc. have been directed to abstain from using any polythene or polythene bags nor sell polythene in any shop in future.
The violators will be dealt under law and a fine of Rs. 5000/- can also be imposed.
children film titled 'Nanhey Farishtey' (NF) screened at Leh
Leh, May 25, 2018: A children film titled 'Nanhey Farishtey' (NF) was screened at a function organized at tribal hostel hall where a large number of spectators including students of Government Boys' and Girls' Higher Secondary Schools Leh, teachers and staff were present. The film is based on social messages of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Swachh Bharat Mission and is produced by Hare Rama Hare Krishna production house.
The film screening was inaugurated with an appreciation note by the Joint Director Education Leh Tashi Dolma. In her note Dolma appreciated the director and producers of the film for screening it free of cost. “Though girl education finds great importance here in Ladakh, the basic shy nature of our kids needs to be addressed at large”, asserted Dolma. Congratulating the team of NF for working on a film that conveys such important messages, Dolma expressed the hope of screening of the film in other government schools of the district too.Talking to media persons, Mumbai based Actor / Director of the film Nixie Mahajan said that the film was screened at World Trade Centre at Mumbai and in various parts of Jammu region. Makers of the film gave preference to the kids of the state for casting as well as child singers. Four songs in the film are based on social issues which again reflect their importance. Sharing her vast experience as actor and model in Mumbai, Nixie felt the urge to make a film and she chose her own state to debut as Director.
Actor / Producer of the film Arjun Mahajan, a common face in TV ad commercials and has couple of films to his credit is co-producing the film, said that the 90 minutes film gives out important message of letting kids choose their own career and help them in recognizing their inner talent and request parents to not to pressurize their kids in academics. Talking about further screening of the film, he said that the film will be shown in various schools of the district.
CEO KDA seeks suggestions, objections for Kargil Master Plan
KARGIL MAY 25, 2018:- The Chief Executive Officer Kargil Development Authority (KDA) has issued a notification to the general public and other stakeholders seeking objections and suggestions with regard to the draft of Kargil Master Plan.The notification reads that the draft of master plan for Kargil-local area has been prepared and a copy thereof will be available for inspection at the offices of the Chief Town Planner, Town Planning Organization Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner/CEO,LAHDC, Kargil and the Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kargil on all working days between 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM till 24th July, 2018.
Interested persons can send their suggestions or objections in writing to the above offices by or before 24th July, 2018.Any person having suggestions or objections has also been requested to give his or her name, address and mobile number.
Mehbooba directs to stick to 30% work allocation to SHGs
SRINAGAR, MAY 22 (PTK): Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today directed strict compliance of Government directive of allocating 30 % job orders by various Departments for members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the State. She also directed raising the financial limits of SHGs from present Rs. 60 lakhs to Rs. One crore besides corresponding enhancements.
Chairing a meeting to review the status of Self Help Groups in the State, the Chief Minister asked for making necessary amendments in the guidelines for SHGs to make them compliant with the needs of the day and the requirements of individual Departments. She specifically asked for engaging the SHGs in the maintenance and upkeep of various assets, facilities and machinery put in the Government particularly Health Department.
Minister for Finance, Labour & Employment, Syed Altaf Bukhari was present in the meeting.
Mehbooba Mufti expressed displeasure in respect of some Departments which have not made the outlined allocations for the SHGs while tendering out their works. She asked all the Departments to revisit their approach in this regard and involve these young technocrats in carrying out various jobs and works being executed by them.
In a significant direction, the Chief Minister asked the JK Bank to come up with a customized scheme within 10 days to provide financial support to these young entrepreneurs so that they don't lag behind for want of credit availability. She also directed undertaking capacity building of these SHGs by respective Departments so that they are able to deliver effectively in tune with the requirements of the individual Departments.
The meeting was informed that by and large the SHGs have exhibited satisfactory performance in terms of quality of works undertaken by them.
Earlier, Secretary, Labour & Employment, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi briefed the meeting about the salient features of the scheme.
The Self-Help Group schemes, it may be recalled, was introduced in the State to provide job avenues to qualified graduates in various engineering disciplines by involving them with construction and upgradation of infrastructure taking benefit of their technical background and know how.
Chief Secretary, B B Vyas; Financial Commissioner, Housing & Urban Development, K B Aggarwal; Administrative Secretaries of various Departments; Chairman, JK Bank, Parvez Ahmad; heads of Departments and senior officers were present in the meeting. (PTK)
Haj 2018: Provisionally selected list of pilgrims issued
SRINAGAR, MAY 22 (PTK): According to the Executive Officer, State Haj Committee, in pursuance to Haj Committee of India Circular No. 29 of 21stMay 2018, the pilgrims waitlisted from GWL-689 to GWL-814 have been provisionally selected for Haj 2018.The selected pilgrims have been requested to deposit the Haj amount as per the opted accommodation category either through online on the Haj Committee of India website www.hajcommittee.gov.in or manually into the Haj Committee of India accounts maintained with the State Bank of India account 32175020010 FEE TYPE-25 or the Union Bank of India account 318702010406009 on or before 30th May 2018, failing which their provisional selection shall be deemed to have been cancelled without further notice.
The pilgrims have been asked to submit their original international machine-readable passports with two colour photographs and medical certificates as per proforma hosted on the Haj Committee of India website or J&K State Haj Committee website www.jkshc.org along with the pay-in-slip on or before 30th May 2018 directly at the office of State Haj Committee at Bemina Srinagar. Social media users makes troll over use of school students in political rally
Kargil/ May 19/ The rally was widely criticised over various social media platforms for using school and college students as spectators. Earlier also the school students especially from college and Girls Higher Secondary School Kargil have been used for various awareness and political rallies.When our correspondent contacted authorities of the said school, they observed regret over the inconvenience. They, on the condition of anonymity, said to VoL that use of students for such programs adversely affect the academic carrier of the students. But, here we have to follow the orders from higher authorities. Responding to a question to discourage use of students for such events, one suggested that it should be made compulsory for all government servicemen to enroll their children in government school so that they would not spoil carrier of their own children as at present only children from lower middle class are enrolled in government schools.
On contrary, the Chief Education Officer Kargil said, attending such events are necessary for all-round development of the students, adding that the recent one was termed imperative from higher authorities.
